Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2012 - Smart Systems for Safe, Sustainable and Networked Vehicles
ICT, components and smart systems have been essential for a multitude of recent innovations, and are expected to be key enabling technologies for the changes ahead, both inside the vehicle and at its interfaces for the exchange of data and power with the outside world. It has been the objective of the International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) for almost two decades to detect novel trends and to discuss technological implications and innovation potential from day one on. In 2012, the topic of the AMAA conference is “Smart Systems for Safe, Sustainable and Networked Vehicles”. The conference papers selected for this book address current research, developments and innovations in the field of ICT, components and systems and other key enabling technologies leading to the automobile and road transport of the future.

Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2011: Smart Systems for Electric, Safe and Networked Mobility
Fundamental transformations are imminent for the automobile today: propulsion technologies are going to shift from combustion engines to electric motors; cars and roads will soon be as safe and convenient as never before; and traffic will flow increasingly efficient. Many of these advancements are due to innovative information and communication technologies and smart systems.
The papers published in this book are selected from the submissions to the 15th International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA 2011) “Smart Systems for Electric, Safe and Networked Mobility”. They cover components, architectures and smart systems enabling the following functionalities: electric driving, safe cars and roads, and connected vehicles.

Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2010: Smart Systems for Green Cars and Safe Mobility
The automobile of the future has to meet two requirements: the efficient use of energy and the safe transport of persons and goods. Both are made possible by intelligent, adaptable and context-conscious information and communication technologies – electrical or electronic components and systems which clearly go beyond the mechanical functions of classical automobile technology. The 14th international conference on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications therefore focused on the topic “Smart Systems for Green Cars and Safe Mobility”. The book contains the conference contributions reviewed by experts from industry and research.

Cluster and network evaluation. Current practical examples
Cluster- und Netzwerkevaluation. Aktuelle Beispiele aus der Praxis
Cluster and network projects have become an important approach in technology and innovation policy. For the evaluation of technology and innovation policy, cluster and network approaches constitute a specific challenge. Networks and clusters are particularly characterised by regional framework conditions, specific features in the constellation between players and inherent dynamisms of interaction. Evaluations are not only required to analyse the impact of governmental intervention, but they must partly take into account endogenous processes and individual particularities. This publication contains the contributions of the rapporteurs of the spring meeting of the Society for Evaluation (DeGEval) on the topic “Cluster and Network Evaluation”.

Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2009: Smart Systems for Safety, Sustainability and Comfort
The beginning change in customers’ wishes and governmental regulations in the field of safety, reliability and comfort of a car calls upon the automobile industry to implement the necessary innovations in this direction now. Intelligent, miniaturised systems and ICT-based solutions are regarded as key to future mobility technologies. The 13th international conference on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) was an exclusive window for R&D activities in this area.

The Internet of Things. The computerisation of the working environment and of everyday life.
Das "Internet der Dinge". Die Informatisierung der Arbeitswelt und des Alltags.
Explanation of a new basic technology. Working paper, Globalisation and Europeanisation, no. 176. Düsseldorf 2009.
The potential of the technologies and infrastructures connected with the paradigm “Internet of Things” is developing rapidly and cannot be stopped. The trade unions believe that accompanying the development of this technology in future, too, and becoming actively involved in it, will be an important field of action for them. DGB, IG Metall and ver.di have started the debate on aspects and options for action relevant to the trade unions within the framework of the special session on “The Internet of Things – the computerisation of everyday life and of the working environment” (December 2008). In preparing and carrying out this session, they were supported by the Institute of Innovation and Technology, Berlin. The outcome of this phase is documented in this working paper.
