Microsystems Technology

Microsystems technology is becoming ever more important for industry in the Federal Republic of Germany and in Europe. An increasing number of enterprises – notably small and medium-sized enterprises – use it in order to develop new or improve existing products and techniques. There already exists an endless number of devices and applications for which microsystems play a key role.

But the potentials of microsystems technology are still far from being exhausted. In future, microsystems can make significant contributions to coping with social challenges. This includes new approaches to the health system, to resource and energy efficiency, but also to mastering the demographic change.

The department Microsystems Technology supports the further development of application fields, technologies and networks in the domain of microsystems technology.

Project Examples

IKT 2020 Focus Microsystems Technology

Microsystems Technology is one of the 21st century’s key technologies and its support is an important part of Germany’s high-tech strategy. Therefore the BMBF supports this technology via the “Information and Communications Technologies (IKT 2020)” programme. There the support concentrates on technological foci, which are especially qualified to strengthen the innovative abilities of the German economy. From the start the VDI/VDE-IT was the project executing organization for all the different Microsystems technology support programmes.

InnovuM – innovation supporting measures for Microsystems Technology

Preliminary strategic discussion courses, measures for the diffusion of results and the integration in the European and international context accompany the support for the Microsystems Technology in the InnovuM project. For this the VDI/VDE-IT analyses obstacles for the implementation of research results into economically exploitable innovations and helps to overcome them. The necessary interaction between different players in the innovation process makes InnovuM special: Researchers and developers, producers, resellers, users, customers, policy makers, public supporters and financiers.
