- Measures designed to support innovation in the area of microsystems technology – Innovum
on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
On behalf of the Ministry VDI/VDE-IT organises information services and communication processes for microsystems technology, strategic measures such as trend scouting for terms of new technologies and applications as well as activities designed to improve the international standing of MST manufacturers and users. Relevant information is made accessible and presented, inter alia, in the "MST-online" microsystems technology portal. - National Contact Point for Microsystem Technologies (NKS)
on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Microsystem Technology as a crossover technology offers solutions for many research topics of EU Framework VI, such as health, mobility, aerospace technology and ecology. The NCP provides information about calls for tenders, advice on application procedures and assistance with contract related questions. - Innovation Supporting Measures of the MST Bavaria Support Programme
on behalf of the Bavarian Ministry for Economy, Infrastucture, Traffic and Technology
The innovation supporting measures of the support programme include offers of technology transfer, increased integration of the Bavarian MST-community and specific consulting for successful participation in the programme.
- Ambient Assisted Living – AAL in Germany
on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research
Initiated by the BMBF Germany played an active role in preparing the European Countries Initiative “AAL-Joint Programme”, was a cofounder of the AAL Association and one of the first partner states which bindingly agreed to participate on the programme. The VDI/VDE-IT is the project executing organisation for this project on behalf of the BMBF.
- Ambient Assisted Living - AAL in Europe

This multinational measure aims at the promotion of projects which offer assistance to people in their domestic environment via intelligent products and related services so that they are able to better cope with their everyday life and to participate as unhindered as possible on the social life. The VDI/VDE-IT is supporting the AAL Association on a central management level.
Scientific support for technology policy and innovation processes
- Scientific monitoring of the BMBF´s initiative “Accreditation of Professional Competences in University Courses – ANKOM”
In cooperation with the University-Information System GmbH (HIS), by order of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF)
The initiative aims at enhancing the permeability of school- and university-grade education. Competences and qualifications, acquired by professional training, are to be identified as equivalents to university courses by eleven nationwide development-projects. The scientific monitoring will support these development projects in devising the methods necessary to designate competence-equivalents and in implementing them by the means of project-related evaluation of processes and results. - Scientific support for innovation and technology analysis – ITA
on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
With its innovation and technology analysis the Ministry financially supports interdisciplinary studies on innovation potentials and technological developments resulting from the integration of different research disciplines and branches. ITA studies are intended to identify untapped potentials inherent in new technologies and to develop innovative solutions in dealing with potential risks. - Analysis of the long-term factors for the success of technology oriented Company Foundations by Women
Promoted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
The project aims at analysing the long-term development processes and factors for success of technology oriented companies, focusing on the female founders. Especially the approaches to financing and founding problems will be elaborated and the differences in founding and management praxis between men and women and western and eastern Germany will be examined. The VDI/VDE-IT will support the research in the project as a network partner. - Accompanying Research for the Next Generation Media Program

The VDI/VDE-IT is coaching the program´s promoted network projects on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology. The tasks of the accompanying research are the analysis of the development and testing schemes, the safeguarding of the single schemes´ coherence in the whole program, the support of the networking and the economical exploitation and the evaluation of the project´s results for a fast distribution to the public.
- Education Sector spanning Initiative Technical Education
supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research within the framework of the Innovation and Technical Analysis (ITA)
The initiative aims at making visible the exceptional importance of the technical education for the German innovation system, at stimulating an education sector spanning discussion in politics and the society and at helping to implement this importance via sustainable measures into Germany´s actual education.
- Exploring the potential of ICT components and systems manufacturing in Europe
study on behalf of the European Commission
The European Commission launched a study to explore the potential of ICT components and systems manufacturing in Europe, to be carried out by VDI/VDE-IT and CEA LETI. The study will be based on an in-depth analysis of the situation in Europe and will lead to a set of recommendations for political actions, in view of emerging opportunities in ICT components and systems manufacturing in the EU.

- Business starters’ contest – making a successful start with multimedia
on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour
With its “Business starters’ contest – making a successful start with multimedia“ the Ministry wants to encourage business startups in the multimedia growth branch and to exhaust existing potentials for new and innovative business concepts. Germany ranks foremost in the international market for information and communication technologies. The contest aims to help strengthen this position further. - Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications –AMAA
funded by the European Commission, the Berlin Senate Administration for Economics, Labour and Women and the Economics Ministry of the Land Brandenburg
The conference on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) offers industry an international forum of debate on the growth potentials which microsystems technology holds. The conference, organised by the Enterprise Europe Network Berlin-Brandenburg (EEN), was held in 2009 for the 13th time.

- EPoSS: European technology platform for smart systems integration
As an application-independent information network on the topic of smart systems and micro-nano integration, the new technology platform EPoSS will bring stakeholders from both the public and the industrial sectors together and establish lasting structures and initiatives to promote European innovation policies and research. This technology platform serves the European Commission, among others, as a source of information for implementing future technology policies, especially in the framework program 7. - ERA-NET on National and Regional Programmes to Promote Innovation Networking and Cooperation between SMEs and Research Organisations – EraSME
funded by the European Commission
EraSME networks national and regional programmes promoting co-operation between SMEs and research organisations from 15 European countries. EraSME is funded within the ERA-NET scheme of the 6th European Framework Programme. - From Micro- and Nanoscale Science to new Technologies for Europe - MNT ERA-NET
funded by the European Commission
Micro-Nano-Technology (MNT) is a key enabling technology covering the fields of microtechnologies, nanotechnology and microsystems. MNT ERA-NET joins 21 support programmes with Micro- and Nanotechnology in 17 European countries.
Basic and further training
- Networks of basic and further training for microsystems technology
Coordinated on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Six networks of basic and further training, funded by the Ministry, are designed to develop and adapt the training system in the field of microsystems technology in parallel with the rapid development of technology, to launch Gender Mainstreaming initiatives and to encourage the promotion of junior staff. These Networks were coordinatet by VDI/VDE-IT in the first years.
