The Federal State Brandenburg has kicked off the regional initiative and backed it up as a Joint Agreement for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures – Network, called “GA-Netzwerk”. The network contents are consumer-oriented topics that are discussed in a Federal State-wide “IT dialog”. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) as a European topic and practice solutions using KNX and other bus systems are as well discussed as communication solutions under the TV-reverse channels and all radio technologies.

The network was showcased at the fair “IT-Profits 2008” and presented Europe-wide leading expert solutions on a specifically designed topic area. With the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the inter-trade organizations the network presents its solutions on fairs and road shows in all German Federal States. Single solutions are internationally found, like in East-European and southern European countries, but also in Asian and Arab countries. In the “capital region” the leading national associations concentrate on diverse branches with defined application potential. The housing economy asks for practical and cost-efficient solutions that benefit above all their tenants (i.e. the consumer) and offer the housing companies innovative roads to the future. The companies from the “mobility and communication” competence field that are located in the capital region identified in cooperation with the technical committee of the housing associations the relevant fields of application and brought the solutions with European pretensions to the market. The network analyses the potentials of the target markets and verifies the feasibility of new approaches and business models.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights>
        <dc:type>Profile</dc:type>

In the technology fields of e-government, geo-information, mobility & communication as well as security with IT, IT companies from Berlin and Brandenburg are at home Germany-wide. In autumn 2006, the region’s entrepreneurs, in cooperation with the Ministry for Economic Affairs Brandenburg and the initiative ZAB GmbH, developed a framework enabling the companies’ knowledge and mastery of security solutions to become a success story even beyond the region’s borders. “SeSamBB- Security and Safety Made in Berlin” – is the third IT cooperation network able to establish itself in the capital region. The main tasks of the cooperation include the coordination of various networks and to direct initiatives and the engagement of regional suppliers. Bundling results in increased innovation and value creation for each individual. Establishing the network SeSamBB is a second step into the right direction. Innovation generates increased commercial success. SMEs involvement (governance, internationalisation, cooperation …) :
Unfortunately, the cluster is not institutionalized, and so there is not a defined governance structure and a coordinator.
Is necessary to increase the number of financial instruments and to facilitate the creation of network, to launch call and project that will fund the production chain.

- Recommendations towards strengthening SMEs’ activities in the cluster :
To increase the company size
To promote a common consortium for cluster management
To support the technological transfer between research centre and companies.
- Cluster’s internationalisation strategy:
In this activities is fundamental the role of SMEs as they make import and export technological activities.
- Cooperations achieved so far:
It’s very low and limited to Small Network Project at regional level

- Other comments:
It could be improved by increasing the number of financial instruments and fund facilitating the creation of networks
The cluster is defined by a lot of SMEs, large companies and some Research centre.
The high tech characteristic of the sector could be an important aspect in order to manage important project at international level.

There is a Network of SMEs; a Central Development Agency whose capital is shared by local “Comuni” (municipalities), CCIAA (Chamber of Commerce and Industry), local organisation of employer, local trade and labour unions, local stakeholders. About internationalisation, it is identified a low capacity, due to lack of solid financial structure and poor co-operation between single SMEs. Some firms work together, but co-operation is fragmented; a typical way for cluster to co-operate is dividing single business projects into phases, which are each carried out by a firm. Segmentation creates specialisation.
