The pole de competitivité i-Trans brings together key players in industry, research and training in the field of innovative rail and land transport systems in Nord-Pas de Calais and Picardie. Together, they decided to build and sustain a global centre of excellence, unique in its kind, by placing rail transport at the heart of the innovative transports systems. Reason to be: Meeting the challenges of international competition in the context of the intensification of cargo and passengers trade . Ambition: Building the first European pole with global visibility on the design, the construction, the competitive exploitation and the maintenance of innovative transport systems in terms of market share, innovation, growth and attractiveness. Four areas of action: Interoperability for the railway sector, the Intermodality for transporting cargo or passengers, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Innovation for economical development. Several industrial sectors are concerned: Rail, Automotive, Port, River and Logistics.
