Nanotechnology Cluster in Pisa and Florence
- Activity sectors (1) ICT – Nano - Microtechnologies - Main technological competencies of the clusters Nanodust and Nanoparticle Textile Chemist and Nanopolymer - Application fields covered: Science and technology for new material Molecular biophysics Biomedicine and new applications in pharmaceutical sector Nanoelectronic Matter physics - Key players : Large companies: Kedrion spa – Geal srl – Tecnotessile srl – Gruppo Colorobbia and Laviosa Chimica Mineraria. Research Centre: N.E.S.T. – Laboratori C.R.I.M. – CNR I.E.I.I.T. – CNR I.F.A.C. – I.N.S.T.M. – C.S.G. – CRISMA - POLYLAB SMEs involvement (governance, internationalisation, cooperation …) : Unfortunately, the cluster is not institutionalized, and so there is not a defined governance structure and a coordinator. Is necessary to increase the number of financial instruments and to facilitate the creation of network, to launch call and project that will fund the production chain. - Recommendations towards strengthening SMEs’ activities in the cluster : To increase the company size To promote a common consortium for cluster management To support the technological transfer between research centre and companies. - Cluster’s internationalisation strategy: In this activities is fundamental the role of SMEs as they make import and export technological activities. - Cooperations achieved so far: It’s very low and limited to Small Network Project at regional level - Other comments: It could be improved by increasing the number of financial instruments and fund facilitating the creation of networks The cluster is defined by a lot of SMEs, large companies and some Research centre. The high tech characteristic of the sector could be an important aspect in order to manage important project at international level.
