Accompanying research Autonomics

The accompanying research of the technology programme AUTONOMIK examines the projects of the programme. Its aim is to guarantee a high-standard quality of the project’s results. The incentive here lies in the establishment of market success as well as a successful introduction of technology-based process and production innovations. Additionally, it aims at a rise in the level of efficiency of the implementation of the production-enhancing methods. The identification and distribution of success factors to strengthen the German economy are also a part of the programme. The VDI/VDE-IT is the official contact.
Assistance Systems for elderly people (AAL)

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research aims at keeping up with demographic change. In order to do so, it funds national and European interdisciplinary projects concerned with the development of age-appropriate assistance on the basis of modern Microsystems and communications technology. Further accompanying measures are conducted, parallel to these interdisciplinary projects. As a central meeting for companies and research institutions, the German AAL congress was introduced. The VDI/VDE-IT is entrusted with the project’s executing organization.

Competition Advancement by Education: Open Universities

This competition aims at promoting university concepts which enhance accessibility of academic education for experienced workers, integrate newly gathered knowledge and thus, ensure the long-term supply of qualified workers. Concepts for extra-occupational degree programmes, degree programmes with extended professional experience phases or programmes aimed at lifelong learning can be submitted. The submitted concepts should address people with family commitments, returnees to the job, university drop-outs, unemployed academics or working Bachelor-alumni – and also include persons without the formal qualifications needed for accessing universities. Project administrator is VDI/VDE-IT.
COWIN – Converging resources to support the value creation in Europe of Microsystems and Miniaturised Smart Systems research projects

COWIN is a European Commission initiative. It aims at strengthening the European competitiveness on the Smart Systems market through commercial exploitation of the technologies developed in European research projects. The VDI/VDE-IT has far-reaching expertise in the field of technology and management as well as well-founded knowledge of European structures and industries in Microsystems and smart systems. Consequently, the VDI/VDE-IT is entrusted with the evaluation of the research results and communication activities.

EPoSS – European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration
European Commission
The technology platform EPoSS is a cross-application network with its focus on smart systems and micro-nano integration. Public and industrial stakeholders from this field are brought together here. The incentive is to establish durable structures and initiatives, which further the European innovation policy and research environment. Since 2005, VDI/VDE-IT has been responsible for the management of the EPoSS’ agency.
ESCA – The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis
The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) supports cluster managers and policy makers with advice on cluster development. ESCA experts have developed a methodology for cluster benchmarking that has been widely acknowledged in Europe. Since 2007 they have benchmarked more than 250 cluster management organizations. Being also involved in the European Clusters Excellence Initiative (ECEI) ESCA experts contribute to the development of tools that support cluster managers on their way to excellence.
EXIST-Start-Up-Grant
Founders from universities receive support in laying the necessary groundwork (product or service development until marketability, market surveys, design and development of strategies) for their start-up schemes.This aims at the development and implementation of a realistic business plan. The VDI/VDE-IT evaluates the incoming drafts from the information and communications technology sector on behalf of the project executing organization PTJ.

FlexNet – Network of Excellence for Flexible, Organic and Large Area Electronics
European Commission
FlexNet aims to further strengthen the global top position of Europe in the field of flexible, organic and large area electronics. A better co-operation between established experts and future players in Southern and Eastern Europe shall be promoted. A further focus is set to further integrate small and medium-sized enterprises and to improve university education in the sector to match the need of qualified personnel. VDI/VDE-IT takes the administrative and is responsible for dissemination and networking with other initiatives.
Founder Contest – IKT innovative

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) is supporting the start up of companies, which focus on products and services in the information and communications technology sector, via the Founder Contest – IKT innovative. The biannual contest awards considerable prizes as seed money for the start up. All winners receive an individual coaching, according to their needs. The VDI/VDE-IT organizes the award on behalf of the ministry.

IKT 2020 Focus Microsystems Technology

Microsystems Technology is one of the 21st century’s key technologies and its support is an important part of Germany’s high-tech strategy. Therefore the BMBF supports this technology via the “Information and Communications Technologies (IKT 2020)” programme. There the support concentrates on technological foci, which are especially qualified to strengthen the innovative abilities of the German economy. From the start the VDI/VDE-IT was the project executing organization for all the different Microsystems technology support programmes.
Industrial Network Renewable Energies Saxony
Saxon State Ministry for Economy, Technology, Transportation
Internationally, Saxony is one of the leading energy technology locations. With the help of the VDI/VDE-IT lead agency of the EESA Initiative, the free state of Saxony aims at supporting this positive trend. The initiative wants to improve and extend the innovation power, the productivity and the export power of Saxony’s industry. This is accomplished through the strategic network made up of companies and research and educational institutions.
InnovuM – innovation supporting measures for Microsystems Technology

Preliminary strategic discussion courses, measures for the diffusion of results and the integration in the European and international context accompany the support for the Microsystems Technology in the InnovuM project. For this the VDI/VDE-IT analyses obstacles for the implementation of research results into economically exploitable innovations and helps to overcome them. The necessary interaction between different players in the innovation process makes InnovuM special: Researchers and developers, producers, resellers, users, customers, policy makers, public supporters and financiers.
IoT-A: Internet of Things - Architecture

IoT-A is the first major research project which aims at creating an universally applicable architecture for the future Internet of Things on an European level – consisting of hardware, software, network and further components. The VDI/VDE-IT co-ordinates the projects in which the German industry is strongly represented.
IoT-i: Internet of Things-Initiative

The project IoT-i is a co-ordination measure. It aims at bringing together the fragmented group of parties which is involved in the development of the Internet of Things. These parties come from the industry, research and public institutions. The measure is intended to quicken the transfer of research concepts and results into marketable solutions. VDI/VDE-IT is a strong partner within the project and is responsible for the community building and the communication work. Further partners are SAP, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Telenor.
IRISS - Implementation of Research and Innovation on Smart Systems Technologies
European Commission
The objectives of IRISS are to hedge and extend competitive advantages of European industry in order to make Europe number one in the world in Smart Systems research and production. Therefore this coordination and support action focuses on improvements of the European innovation system in the smart systems sector. IRISS includes 27 organisations from industry and research, of which 16 are contractual partners and 11 are associated partners. VDI/VDE-IT is project coordinator of IRISS.
IT2Green - Energy-Efficient ICT for SMEs, Administration and Habitation
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology supports - through the "IT2Green - Energy-Efficient ICT for SMEs, Administration and Habitation" technology contest - research and development activities, which lead to advanced model solutions for energy- and resource efficient ICT in application fields with a broad impact. The VDI/VDE-IT organizes the public relations for the programme's accompanying research, whose content is created and coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institutes for Reliability and Micro-Integration (IZM) and for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI).
ITA – Innovation and Technology Analysis

Via ITA the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports interdisciplinary surveys about innovation potentials and technological developments, about their chances and risks and about their economical, ecological and social effects. This aims at identifying areas of technological progress favoured by the society, depicting design potentials and pointing out the scope of possible actions. Additionally the ITA-surveys are designed to detect the untapped potentials of new technologies and to develop innovative solutions for possible risks. The VDI/VDE-IT is the project executing organization for ITA.

Microsystems in Bavaria support programme
Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology
In the Microsystem Technologies support programme the Bavarian State Government supports medium-sized companies in enhancing and applying this key technology. The joining of different functions and technologies in very small spaces creates intelligent integrated systems. The programme is intended to speed up the application of these systems in new products and therefore to further enhance the competitive capabilities of Bavarian companies. The VDI/VDE-IT supports the Microsystems Support Programme professionally and organizationally.

ProFIT – Funding programme for research, innovation and technologies
Berlin’s senate administration for Economics, Technology and Women funding activities in the technological field are concentrated in ProFIT. VDI/VDE-IT supports the Investment Bank Berlin in implementing the programme – especially with regard to the assessment and the accompaniment of projects. This includes R&D as well as market introduction projects.
Promotion programme Electromobility
German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety
The programme promotes field studies in automobile and commercial transport as well as furthering the development of recycling drive batteries. Additionally, it studies the ecologic and economic use of electro mobility. The programme supports the networking of electric vehicles and economic use of energy systems. It does this through the help of modern information and communication technologies in E-Energy model regions. Additionally, it supports the acquisition of Diesel Hybrid Busses by municipalities. As project manager, the VDI/VDE-IT organises the design of projects and the implementation of the promotion programme.

Research programme “Organic Photovoltaics & Dye Solar Cells”
Ministry of Economics of Baden-Württemberg
Baden-Württemberg is one of Europe’s leading photovoltaic sites. The aim of the programme of the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg gGmbH is to improve the efficiency of solar cells and secure long-term stability. Further foci are the analysis of mass production processes through established print procedures and the development of new solar cell concepts on flexible beamers and large areas. The state wants to secure options for the economic utilization of organic photovoltaic through the contract research. VDI/VDE-IT is responsible for the programmatic execution on the content and organizational level and the main contact for applicants.

Scientific monitoring of the BMBF-Initiative of accrediting vocational competencies to university courses – ANKOM
The initiative ANKOM aims at improving the permeability between vocational and university education. Eleven state-wide development projects are intended to identify competencies and qualifications acquired during vocational training and equivalent to university study. The scientific monitoring, through VDI/VDE-IT in cooperation with the HIS GmbH, supports the eleven projects in the establishment of processes to determine competence equivalents. Additionally, through project-related process and result evaluation, it helps with the implementation of theses processes.
Support Programme Information and Communications Technology Bavaria
Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology
The Bavarian State Government supports research institutes and companies in developing, enhancing and applying these future technologies via the Information and Communications Technology in Bavaria support programme. This is intended to speed up the application of information and communications technology in new products and solutions and thus to strengthen Bavaria as a high-tech location. The VDI/VDE-IT is the project executing organization of the programme and therefore manages the whole application and project process.

TCC Technology Coaching Center
TCC supports entrepreneurs as well as young and existing companies in Berlin, which produce, develop and market innovative technology-orientated products and services through subsidized coaching. Central aims are e.g. the completion of a business plan, the clarification of financing issues or help with marketing, sales and controlling. In their search for funding, the technology companies are prepared for the demands of financers and the use of promotion products and shareholdings. VDI/VDE-IT is integrated into this coachingon behalf of the TCC Technology-Coaching-Center GmbH.

The agency is located with the VDI/VDE-IT. It advises networks and guarantees the quality and representativeness of its members. The European project X10D aims to enable organic photovoltaics (OPV) to enter the competitive thin-film PV market. It will achieve this by pooling the knowledge and expertise of the leading research institutes and start-up companies in Europe. VDI/VDE-IT is partner in the project.

ZIM - Central Innovation Programme SME

The Central Innovation Programme SME is the base programme of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. It concentrates on market-orientated promotion of the innovative mid-sized economy in Germany. In different modules, R&D cooperation projects, network projects as well as innovation-supporting service and consultancy are promoted. The VDI/VDE-IT is commissioned with the module ZIM-Nemo (initiation of regional networks) and ZIM-SOLO (single projects).
