Electromobility
With its Integrated Energy and Climate Programme, the Federal Republic of Germany has set international standards for the protection of the Earth’s atmosphere. It aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% until 2020 over 1990, the year taken as a basis. In this connection, it is envisaged to achieve a not negligible CO2 reduction in the traffic sector. In addition, a clear reduction of the consumption of end energy is envisaged (40% by 2050).
Under the conditions of an ever-denser traffic, the goal can only be reached with an increasing proportion of electric cars and new traffic concepts. Above vehicles with an electric drive offer great potentials to lower the CO2 output caused by traffic and to reduce dependence on oil imports, the aim being to make Germany a lead market and provider of electromobility.
VDI/VDE-IT is actively helping to develop this field of future growth.
