As the Electronics and Microsystems department we stand for interdisciplinary research funding and deep expertise in electronics and innovation promotion. Based in Dresden and Berlin, we draw on strong technical expertise to develop solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.
Our interdisciplinary team brings together experts from the fields of materials science, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, chemistry, waste management, applied natural sciences, and other disciplines. We place great value on diversity – with an almost equal ratio of women and men, we create an environment that promotes different perspectives and accelerates innovation in SMEs, universities, research institutions, and even large corporations.
We work for federal and state ministries (Saxony and Berlin) as well as networks, conduct studies, and support national and European research and development projects along the entire electronics value chain. Our tasks include designing funding programmes, evaluating and supporting projects, and assisting German partners in European initiatives. In addition, we organise events and trade fair participations, and prepare specialist information for our customers.
Our strength lies in our high degree of flexibility and strong team spirit: whether in the promotion of novel semiconductor technologies, open design tools for forward-looking applications, powerful AI chips, robotics, or communication technologies, from SME projects to semiconductor factories or high-performance computing centres – we think interdisciplinarity, act in a solution-oriented manner, and actively and sustainably shape the future.
As a driving force in electronics and innovation promotion, we play a key role in ensuring that technological developments are put into practice and translated into market-ready applications. Our work is also reflected in numerous publications and studies, through which we share our expertise and contribute to Europe’s innovation capacity.
