PRO-Ethics was a Horizon 2020 project that designed a comprehensive, co-developed and tested ethics framework and practical guidelines for the ethically responsible involvement of citizens and non-traditional actors in research and innovation. The aim was to make participatory processes fair, transparent, gender-equitable, data protection-compliant and sustainable, thereby increasing the relevance and effectiveness of innovation processes. To this end, eleven pilot projects were carried out in research and innovation funding organisations, findings were systematised and implementation standards were shared in order to make the results of the project accessible for broad application in Europe.
VDI/VDE-IT was responsible for one of the pilot projects, a citizens' advisory council, which it implemented as part of a funding announcement. VDI/VDE-IT also participated in the design of the ethical framework.
