Success Factor for a Competitive Business Location

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It leads to extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and the loss of biodiversity. To counteract this, a consistent reduction in greenhouse gases, especially CO₂, is essential. This can be achieved primarily through the expansion of renewable energies, but in the long term also through the material use and storage of CO₂ that has already been released.

Renewable energies such as solar, wind, and hydro power, combined with efficient energy use, prevent climate-damaging emissions, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, and are a key factor in Germany’s success as a business and innovation location. With our expertise, we support the transition to a sustainable energy supply and assist companies in switching to green technologies of the future and expanding their energy and resource efficiency.

Towards a Sustainable Energy Future with Battery Cells and Hydrogen

Since renewable energies are weather-dependent, we need efficient storage technologies. Battery storage, power-to-X (conversion of electrical energy into other energy sources such as gas, liquid fuels, or heat), and pumped storage plants help to store energy and make it quickly available again. That is why we are supporting the development of renewable fuels. These are electricity-based fuels, but also biofuels from waste and residual materials. By establishing value chains for battery cell production, our experts are helping to make high-performance, affordable, and sustainable storage technologies available.

Another important building block for the transformation of our energy system is hydrogen, especially “green hydrogen,” which is produced by electrolysis using electricity from renewable energy sources and can replace fossil fuels in industry, transportation, and energy supply. Nuclear fusion, in which enormous amounts of energy are released by fusing two atomic nuclei, could become a virtually inexhaustible, clean source of energy, but is still in the development phase.

Biodiversity and Resource Efficiency for Climate and the Environment

Biodiversity is closely linked to climate and environmental protection, as healthy ecosystems bind CO₂ and help maintain the natural balance.

We also have expertise in the circular economy, which is about using resources efficiently, avoiding waste, and reusing materials. Recycling and durable products help to reduce resource consumption, and ultimately make us less dependent on global supply chains.

As a project management agency, we ensure that the transformation of our energy and economic system is successful. We support stakeholders from politics, science, and business across numerous funding programmes and projects that focus on energy and material flows, value chains, and the social impacts of this transformation – all geared towards achieving holistic and sustainable success.
