Mobility and infrastructure

Staying connected, sustainable, and digitally mobile

The way we travel and transport goods is changing rapidly. Automated driving, e-mobility, and smart cities are opening up new opportunities for the economy, society, and the environment. As a project management agency and partner within the innovation system, we support and help shape this transformation.

Mobility for people and the climate

Mobility is more than just getting from A to B – it is the backbone of our society and economy. To ensure that it remains efficient, sustainable, and inclusive in the future, new approaches and technologies are needed.

Electromobility, sustainable battery technologies, and alternative propulsion systems make a decisive contribution to reducing emissions in transport and achieving climate targets. For e-mobility to become part of everyday life, we need powerful charging infrastructures, smart power grids, and flexible storage solutions. Innovative fuels and hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources will play a key role in further advancing the decarbonisation of mobility.

The mobility system of the future will benefit people in both urban and rural areas alike.

Tailored, digital services in public transport and automated and connected driving reduce traffic jams, optimise traffic flows, and enable flexible solutions – from car sharing to on-demand shuttles. Especially in rural areas, these services open up new opportunities for participation and improve quality of life. Cars, buses, and trains that communicate with each other and operate at varying levels of automation also increase comfort and safety.

But mobility does not end on the road: high-performance broadband and mobile networks provide the foundation for smart cities and the seamless networking of people and machines. Intelligent sensor technology and traffic management systems provide information for navigation and traffic control, enable more precise route planning, better control of air and ship traffic, and new services for logistics.

New approaches to the mobility of the future

As a project management agency, we build bridges between science, industry, policymakers, and society. We support research, innovations, transformation, and investments that provide answers to key questions:

  • How can e-mobility be successfully integrated into everyday life?
  • How can we build trust in automated vehicles?
  • What role will data and AI play in the mobility systems of tomorrow?
  • How can decarbonisation and digital infrastructures go hand in hand?
  • How can the transformation of the automotive industry become an economic success for Germany?
  • How can we achieve technological sovereignty in core components such as vehicle batteries?

Mobility is not just about technology, but also about social participation, economic competitiveness, and environmental responsibility. We support projects that combine technical excellence with social added value and economic success. Through our analytical work and networking activities, we also strengthen the industries that will play a pivotal role in shaping the mobility systems of the future.

The future of mobility will emerge by itself – it requires research, courage, and sustained support.

Through our work, we help ensure that Germany maintains a leading role in key technologies such as battery technologies, automated and connected driving, and digital infrastructures. In this way, we are helping to shape the transition towards connected, sustainable, and digital mobility – for a modern Germany and Europe that keeps moving.

Battery 2030+

Battery 2030+ is a Europe-wide research initiative to develop the next generation of sustainable batteries. It focuses on a chemistry-neutral approach that does not optimise individual cell chemistries, but rather creates a comprehensive toolbox for material design, interface engineering, integrated sensor technology,…

COSMOS (Coherent Support for Mobility.E Strategy)

COSMOS is supporting the ‘Mobility.E Lighthouse’ initiative by the ECSEL JU (Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership Joint Undertaking). The ECSEL JU is a public-private partnership launched by the EU Commission. Its goal is to promote research and development in the…
